The XIII International Archaeological School has opened in Bulgaria.
The XIII Bulgarian International Archaeological School will take place from August 11 to 23 at the Bulgarian State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve. Since its inception, more than 800 young scientists and specialists from 50 countries have participated in the summer archaeological school. The opening was held today in the conference hall of the museum-exhibition complex "Memorial Sign." At the plenary session of the event, the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rifkat Minnikhanov, the head of the Spassky municipal district of the Republic of Tatarstan, Roman Islanov, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the director of the A.Kh. Khalikov Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ayrat Sitdikov, the director of the Bulgarian State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, Ramil Ziganshin, and other scholars spoke. This year, 75 participants from 24 regions of Russia and 5 countries are taking part in the archaeological school – these are undergraduates and master's students, PhD students, young scientists, and specialists. Leading specialists from the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yaroslav the Wise Novgorod State University, Ural Federal University, the NTI Foundation, Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering, and the A.Kh. Khalikov Institute of Archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan will teach at the summer school. "Over the years, the Bulgarian School has gained recognition and respect, and during its preparation, nearly 850 people have been trained in 40 scientific areas. The specificity of the school's activities is related to scientific areas that are not taught or are taught only to a limited extent in universities. The courses and programs themselves are implemented in interdisciplinary areas, allowing you to address issues of acquiring new knowledge, the possibility of preserving artifacts, and studying the informational potential related to archaeological heritage: these include problems of restoring different types of materials, taphonomy, paleoanthropology, archaeozoology, bioarchaeology, geoinformatics, geoarchaeology, geophysical methods, and remote methods of studying archaeological monuments," said the director of the A.Kh. Khalikov Institute of Archaeology, Ayrat Sitdikov. This year, the archaeological school will focus on studying modern geoinformation systems, unmanned systems, and geophysics. "This school and the holding of this event is an important event not only for science but also for the preservation and popularization of our heritage. It fully meets the objectives of state cultural policy and the national project 'Culture.' I especially want to note the format that has developed here over the years, which unites the best scientific and educational forces of Russia and abroad. For the Republic of Tatarstan, this school is a real training ground for personnel, and the geography of participants indicates that the school is in demand and strengthens humanitarian and cultural ties," noted the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, Damir Natfullin.
Currently, negotiations are underway with China regarding the next summer archaeological school, which may take place in the administrative, economic, and cultural center of Inner Mongolia, the city of Hohhot.
