A new resident has settled in the Kazan Zoo Botanical Garden – a capybara named Pasha. The water-loving rodent was brought from Nizhny Novgorod and placed in a pool with fish and herons.
A new tenant has appeared in the Kazan Botanical Garden "Zambezi River," who has already attracted the attention of visitors with his phlegmatic and friendly nature. As reported on Monday, August 4, by the official portal of Kazan, a four-year-old male capybara named Pasha was delivered from the Nizhny Novgorod Zoo "Limpopo." "We have a long-awaited addition. ...> This is a male capybara named Pasha. He is 4 years old. ...> Pasha came to us from the Nizhny Novgorod Zoo and is now settling in at the 'Zambezi River.' He has a large enclosure with warm water and a cozy house," the zoo's Telegram channel reports. The transportation went smoothly, taking about six hours, and throughout the journey, the animal's condition was monitored, and it was offered its usual food and water. The newcomer was placed in the "Hippopotamus" pavilion, as the semi-aquatic animal requires constant access to water, and a spacious enclosure with a pool has already been equipped for him. Along with Pasha, four Egyptian herons live in the internal enclosure, and fish swim in the pool. The male is already ready to start a family, and plans are being made to find him a mate. In the first half of 2026, fifty-one offspring appeared in the zoo, and in June, the collection was supplemented by two Asian elephants. According to specialists, a total of 270,000 people visited the botanical zoo in six months. About a year ago, it was reported that a red-listed guanaco offspring was born in the Kazan Zoo. As noted by the zoo specialists, the offspring was born right before the eyes of visitors during the guanaco's walk. The birth went smoothly, and the assistance of zoologists was not required.
