Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the strengthening of the ruble is beneficial for citizens, but at the same time creates difficulties for export-oriented companies. The statement was made during a meeting with the governor of the Sakhalin region, Valery Limarenko, on Iturup Island. The governor reported that the region's economy is stable; however, due to the rise in the national currency's exchange rate, the region is not receiving part of its budget revenues. According to him, this is due to the export-oriented nature of the economy.
Putin also reminded that he had previously explained the strengthening of the ruble by the low demand for foreign currency within Russia. The president added that the key interest rate should be lowered, as indicated by macroeconomic indicators. The material notes that a turning point for the dollar exchange rate is expected on August 17.
