According to Reuters, citing analytics from Kpler, on Friday, August 14, only three vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz, compared to an average of twelve ships in August. The recorded vessels included a bulk carrier with grain for Iran, an empty vessel, and a tanker without cargo for liquefied petroleum products heading to the Persian Gulf, with no crude oil shipments reported. The agency also noted a decrease in traffic to nine vessels on August 13 and five on August 12, suggesting that the actual statistics could be higher due to disabled transponders.
On the evening of August 13, two tankers belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, after which the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs held Iran responsible and demanded that Tehran cease aggression, ensuring the unhindered passage of vessels. The day before, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the introduction of unprecedented sanctions against the Islamic Republic, implying its complete economic isolation and port blockade.
