Starting from September 1, a new procedure for holding drivers accountable for operating a vehicle without an OSAGO policy is in effect in Russia. There must be at least 24 hours between repeated recordings of the same violation. Thus, if a driver without insurance is fined in the morning, they cannot be held accountable again on the same day for a similar violation. However, the opportunity arises again the next day. The amount of fines has not changed. The penalty for the first violation is set at 800 rubles. A repeated violation within a year after the first can result in a fine ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 rubles. The new procedure is also seen as a preparatory step for the automatic verification of OSAGO availability using road cameras.
