      On the M-7 "Volga," a major repair of the bridge over the Toyma River has begun. Traffic has been organized on the neighboring bridge, and motorists have been asked to use alternative routes.

      The bridge over the Toyma has started major repairs

      For thousands of motorists who travel daily on the M-7 "Volga," the familiar route has changed. There is a temporary traffic restriction on the federal highway M-7 "Volga." The reason is the major repair of the bridge over the Toyma River. As reported by Sergey Avtonomov, the deputy head of the Federal State Institution "Volgo-Vyatskupavtodor," the traffic intensity in this area is about 21,000 vehicles per day. Therefore, the condition of the bridge is directly related not only to the comfort of motorists but primarily to traffic safety.

      — This bridge was built in 1987 and is currently in an emergency state. To bring it to a standard condition, we started repairs at the end of August this year, — noted Sergey Avtonomov.

      The project involves almost a complete renewal of the structure. The span structure will be dismantled, some beams will be replaced, and some will be restored and repaired. Specialists will also work on the bridge's supports. After the main structural work is completed, the road surface will need to be restored, and new railings and barrier fences will be installed.

      Repairs are expected to be completed ahead of schedule

      According to the contract, the completion of the repairs is scheduled for October 2028. However, road workers hope to finish much sooner.

      — Considering the high traffic intensity and the demand for this section, we are making every effort to complete the repairs ahead of schedule — already in June 2027, — reported Sergey Avtonomov.

      Currently, 34 people and seven units of equipment are involved in the project. Specialists have begun preparatory work related to the dismantling of beams.

      The head of the "Bridges RT" section, Evgeny Yevdokimov, stated that the work is being carried out in two shifts. Before winter, the contractor plans to complete a significant volume of work: prepare the intermediate and bank supports and install the beams in the design position.

      Traffic has been redirected to the neighboring bridge

      At the same time, the acceleration of the pace should not affect the quality of the repairs.

      — We will adhere to all technologies, — emphasized Evgeny Yevdokimov.

      They plan to shorten the time primarily by increasing the number of workers and shifts. During the repair period, traffic in both directions has been redirected to the neighboring bridge. There is a weight restriction in place — no more than 20 tons.

      This is a necessary measure: the second bridge was built back in 1977 and also needs updating. It was last repaired in 2011. After the work on the first bridge is completed, specialists plan to start repairs on the second one.

      Motorists have been offered detour options

      In organizing traffic, it was necessary to close the existing turnaround at the 1032nd kilometer of the M-7 near Maltsevo and Pospelovo. For drivers, the turnaround at the 1030th kilometer remains. As noted by road workers, the additional route is just over a kilometer.

      There are also other detour options. Drivers can use the regional road through the detour around the village of Pospel or choose the federal highway M-12, bypassing Chally and Nizhnekamsk.

      The head of the traffic police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Elabuga district, Timur Galimullin, noted that the traffic organization scheme during the repair was agreed upon with the road owner, the contracting organization, and the traffic police.

      — Residents of the settlements are losing time. This is a fair complaint, and we hear it. But the alternative is not the absence of temporary losses, but ensuring the life and health of citizens. Our task is to ensure that no one is harmed during the repairs, — he emphasized.

      Drivers are asked to plan their routes in advance, pay attention to temporary road signs, and adhere to the established speed limits.
