An elderly resident of the capital decided to heat his apartment using a gas stove. As a result of carbon monoxide poisoning, the 73-year-old man was taken to hospital.
According to the State Housing Inspectorate of the Republic of Tatarstan, the first case of carbon monoxide poisoning caused by using a gas stove to heat an apartment has been recorded. The report states that the incident occurred in Kazan on Chuykova Street. The 73-year-old pensioner, trying to warm himself, turned on the stove’s burners, after which he felt unwell and was urgently hospitalized at the Sadykov Hospital.
Specialists note that, to ensure the safety of the apartment building’s residents, the gas riser was shut off in nine other apartments. Specialists from KazanGorgaz plan to restore the gas supply as soon as they gain access to the victim’s apartment. In addition, it is reported that in Chistopol the gas supply to an apartment building on Mebelnaya Street was suspended due to a leak — supply will be resumed after repair work is completed and all apartments are inspected.
Earlier it was reported that since the beginning of this year, 250 incidents have been recorded in the Republic of Tatarstan at sites related to gas supply. Materials from the State Housing Inspectorate of the Republic of Tatarstan stated that these incidents resulted in 28 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning, eight of which were fatal.
