Vance confirmed that the United States is discussing supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles.
The authorities of the United States are indeed discussing the possibility of NATO supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles for subsequent transfer to Ukraine. The information, which earlier appeared in the media, was confirmed by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, TASS reports.
At the same time, the politician stressed that the final decision regarding the delivery of long-range cruise missiles of American manufacture will be made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky asked Trump at a meeting on September 23 at the UN building in New York to supply Tomahawk cruise missiles. Previously the U.S. President had responded negatively to such requests, the publication Axios noted.
The Ukrainian politician himself confirmed that he had asked the American leader for a type of weapon that had not previously been supplied. According to Zelensky, Trump told him: "We will work on that" (quote via TASS).
Next week a delegation from Ukraine is scheduled to visit Washington for talks with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. It is the head of the Pentagon and his Under Secretary for Policy, Elbridge Colby, who authorize the use of U.S.-made weapons. Since the spring they have blocked launches of ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles, WSJ observed.
The flight range of Tomahawk cruise missiles is up to 2,500 kilometers. The warhead weight can reach 450 kilograms. The circular probable error for the latest modifications is from 5 to 10 meters. In addition to the main launch method—from ships—they can also be launched from land. The first land-based modification, Gryphon, was withdrawn from service in 1987 in accordance with the INF Treaty. But recently the Americans developed a new ground launcher, Typhon, allowing, among other things, the launch of Tomahawk.
