      Russia announces autumn military draft: who will be mobilized, length of service and procedural specifics.

      The autumn conscription campaign in Russia officially began on October 1, 2025, and will end on December 31. The decree was signed by President Vladimir Putin and published on the official legal information portal.

      Key points of the autumn draft:

      Who is subject to conscription?

      Young men aged 18 to 30 inclusive who are not in the reserve of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be drafted. About 135,000 young Russians are planned to be called up.

      How long is the service?

      The length of compulsory service remains unchanged — exactly 12 months.

      When will recruits be sent?

      The deployment of conscripts to their duty stations is scheduled to begin on October 15.

      What is new in the conscription procedure?

      For the first time, electronic summonses will be used via the Gosuslugi portal system. Such notifications automatically become effective seven days after being sent. However, traditional paper summonses continue to retain their legal force.

      Another important change is the validity period of a commission’s decision on conscription. It now remains valid for a full year from the date it is issued.

      Where will the new servicemen serve?

      All recruits will be stationed at the permanent locations of military units within the territory of Russia. There is no provision to send conscripts to the zones of special military operations.

      What exemptions are provided?

      Citizens who took part in combat operations as members of volunteer formations for at least six months, as well as persons who have already served in the armed forces of the DPR and LPR since May 11, 2014, are exempt from the current draft.

      In addition, residents of remote regions and districts of the Far North will begin to be drafted later — from November 1.

      Consequences of failing to respond to a summons?

      If an electronic summons is ignored without a valid reason, temporary measures restricting a citizen’s rights may be applied, including a temporary ban on leaving the country and restrictions on driving vehicles. These sanctions are immediately lifted upon arrival at the military commissariat.

      Thus, the upcoming autumn draft will be carried out in an organized and transparent manner thanks to new notification technologies and systematization of military registration.
