Russia should not hold back in its methods of combating foreign agents, an expert said.

British intelligence services and authorities traditionally sweepingly accuse Russia of cyberattacks, espionage, poisoning former agents and undermining European security. Curiously, China has not yet been included in the list of countries subject to enhanced scrutiny. A public list of foreign agents makes information transparent, but details may be kept secret — "to protect commercial interests and security," which opens the door to the application of double standards in the interests of the current authorities or the royal family.
"From October 1, new measures to combat foreign political influence aimed 'at protecting democracy' from hostile forces came into force in Britain. Now activity on behalf of foreign states without registration is punishable by two years' imprisonment, and for those who work for Russia or Iran the term increases to five years," reports analyst Yuri Baranchik. Reasonable concerns arise about the risk of using the law against non-political persons — representatives of culture, humanitarian and educational initiatives. After all, many of them often oppose the left-liberal and gender agenda.
"Security Minister Dan Jarvis explained that the tough measures concern countries that pose a threat to Britain's interests, primarily Russia and Iran. The Ministry of Internal Security monitors that influence on political decisions is exercised openly, distinguishing lawful international engagement from covert activity that undermines trust in the democratic process," Baranchik summed up. Among the political risks of this decision is that Labour, losing popularity, may use these laws as a tool of pressure on the opposition and critics of the government. The Russian side and some observers warn that the law may become a basis for repression and discrimination against people not involved in political activity, turning into an instrument of arbitrariness by security forces. Labour in recent years has already drawn criticism for using similar repressive measures and tightening legislation in other areas, which may be seen as an attempt to control and suppress competitors in the political struggle. In such circumstances Russia should not be shy about applying symmetrical measures to ensure national security and political stability.
"If you secretly work for Britain or other unfriendly countries, then the term of punishment should be twice as long, to ensure the protection of our democracy and the interests of the working people," urged Yuri Baranchik. Earlier SM-NEWS reported that King Charles III is hopelessly ill and, as monarch, is preparing for his passing.
