The new issue of the publication about the country's heroes has been delivered to the National Library.

      The publication “Names of Heroes on the Map of Russia” was prepared by Rosreestr together with the Center of Geodesy, Cartography and Spatial Data Infrastructure for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The booklet contains information about geographic features of the Russian Federation that received names in accordance with decrees of the Government of Russia in the period from 2020 to 2025. On the pages of the publication readers are addressed by the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin. He emphasized that the main task in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory is to protect historical truth from distortion and falsification.

      It should be recalled that earlier, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory, the first edition of the booklet was published. It included information on more than 30 names of geographic features of the Russian Federation named in honor of the country’s heroes. Among the defenders of the Fatherland is our fellow countryman — native of Laishevsky District Voronov Rustik Borisovich. At the age of 17 he volunteered for the Red Army and was sent to the Far East, where he took part in the war against Japan and carried out special missions to liberate the Kuril Islands. In 2018 a cape on an island in the Sea of Okhotsk was named after him.

      “On the pages of the second issue of this unique publication, as in the first issue, stories are told about heroes of the Great Patriotic War and contemporary heroes whose names, by decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, have been given to mountains, islands, bays, ranges, capes and other geographic features. Proposals to assign names to unnamed physico-geographical objects (bays, inlets, capes, mountains and others) in honor of heroes were submitted by citizens, public organizations and government bodies. Each spread of the publication features a map indicating the geographic object and the biography of the hero. In total the second edition includes information on 31 heroes. The publication is intended to preserve the memory of the feats of the defenders of the Fatherland and to pass knowledge about them on to future generations,” noted Deputy Head of Rosreestr of Tatarstan Aynaz Akhmetova.

      “We are very pleased that this is the second book we have received as a gift from Rosreestr of Tatarstan, and it contains new names of Heroes, those who paid tribute to serving the Motherland by defending our country from the fascist invaders. Many of them, at the cost of their lives, brought the great Victory closer. The first such book was gifted to us 5 years ago and is located in our general reading room in open access. Anyone can view it, even without a library card. It is doubly valuable that this is an exclusive edition that cannot be bought and the book can only be read in our library. The new book ‘Names of Heroes on the Map of Russia’ will make a wonderful addition to our collection of books and magazines about the Great Patriotic War.”

      Rosreestr, as the authorized federal executive body, regulates the naming of geographic features. After the respective decisions are adopted by the Government of the Russian Federation, the names of geographic features are registered in the State Catalogue of Geographic Names.
