Earlier, at the prosecutor's suit, the Vysokogorsky District Court of Tatarstan ordered that property worth more than 116 million rubles be recovered from former Bugulma mayor Linar Zakirov and members of his family in favor of the state.
Another stage in the large-scale corruption case against former Bugulma mayor Linar Zakirov concluded with a court decision. The city court granted the prosecutor's office of the Republic of Tatarstan's claim to confiscate, for the benefit of the state, an apartment in Bugulma and a Mazda car that the former official had purchased with unverified income for a close acquaintance. The total value of these assets amounted to 7.5 million rubles, the republic's prosecutor's office press service reported.
"The Bugulma City Court satisfied the prosecutor's office's claims to recover, for the benefit of the state, an apartment in Bugulma and a Mazda car purchased with unverified income by former Bugulma mayor Linar Zakirov for his close acquaintance," the statement says.
This claim was a continuation of the major case opened against Zakirov. Earlier, in early July, the court had already ordered the seizure of property registered to the ex-mayor's mother, Fatima Zakirova, as well as to his father-in-law and mother-in-law. At that time, luxury real estate in Kazan and Moscow, properties in Sochi and a premium Porsche Cayenne were turned over to the state's income, with a total value of 115 million rubles.
The investigation showed that during seven years in the post of Bugulma mayor, Zakirov's official income amounted to 22.2 million rubles, while his wife's income over five years was only 771 thousand rubles. However, these figures contradicted the family's large-scale acquisitions. As the prosecutor's office established, the real estate was nominally registered to relatives, which made it possible to conceal the true source of the funds.
