Prosecutors requested a 10-year prison sentence for Kupov, the former head of a department of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Prosecutors have sought 10 years' imprisonment in a general‑regime penal colony and a 3.2 million‑ruble fine for the former head of the Prosecutor’s Office department of Tatarstan responsible for oversight of the Investigative Committee’s procedural activities, Aliy Kupov. This was reported by a BUSINESS Online correspondent from the courtroom. “The guilt has been fully proven,” said state prosecutor Marina Khairova. The defense will also present its arguments today.
In addition, the defendants — entrepreneur Evgenia Pokrovskaya — were faced with a demand of 8 years and 1 month in a penal colony and a 2.5 million‑ruble fine. Businessman Artem Myasnikov is being asked to serve 3 years' imprisonment.
Kupov was detained in August 2023. Recall that, according to the prosecution, he received an iPhone worth 110,000 rubles from Pokrovskaya in exchange for softening the case against her acquaintance, who had been detained on drug charges. That acquaintance turned out to be Rimm Sukiasyan. According to the indictment, Kupov, abusing his official powers, organized “conditions” for reclassifying the actions of the woman detained on drug charges.
