A participant in the "Batyrlar. Heroes of Tatarstan" program completed a three-day internship at the State Budgetary Institution "Research and Production Association Geocenter of the Republic of Tatarstan".

      At the State Budgetary Institution “Scientific and Production Association GeoCenter of the Republic of Tatarstan” a three-day internship of participant of the “Batyrlar. Heroes of Tatarstan” program Igor Yakovlevich Yegorov took place from November 17 to 19. It was organized to acquaint him with the institution’s work in the field of subsoil use, as well as geological and environmental monitoring, the press service of the State Budgetary Institution “Scientific and Production Association for Geology and Subsoil Use of the Republic of Tatarstan” reported.

      On the first day Igor Yakovlevich was shown the work of geologists and given a detailed overview of their main areas of activity. The specialists paid special attention to the issue of geological safety for the population. They explained how surveillance is carried out for hazardous exogenous processes that can threaten people and infrastructure. To demonstrate this work in practice, the participant was taken to one of the monitoring sites — a karst sinkhole in the Zelenodolsky District. On site he was shown how field surveys are conducted, how the condition and development dynamics of such processes are assessed, and what measures allow forecasting and preventing such phenomena.

      On the second day Igor Yakovlevich, together with specialists from the Central Department of the laboratory, studied modern measurement methods and became acquainted with high-precision analytical instruments and equipment used for environmental monitoring. He also took part in the sampling and analysis of ambient air using a mobile environmental laboratory. An important part of the internship was familiarization with the operation of automated stations that record air pollution levels.

      On the final day of the internship Igor Yakovlevich reviewed the operation of the calculated atmospheric air monitoring system for the city and adjacent areas, which takes into account all active emission sources. Specialists from the consolidated calculations department explained how such data help determine each enterprise’s contribution to the overall level of pollution and identify areas where concentrations of harmful substances exceed standards. During the training several calculation examples were presented to clearly show how background indicators are determined and pollution sources identified.

      At the conclusion of the internship Igor Yakovlevich met with the head of the State Budgetary Institution “Scientific and Production Association GeoCenter of the Republic of Tatarstan” to sum up the results. They discussed the organization’s practices in the fields of geology, ecology and consolidated calculations.
