Farid Mukhametshin: Tatarstan continues to develop cooperation with many countries

      Tatarstan continues to develop foreign economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation with many countries. This was stated at a meeting of the Coordination Council for Compatriots' Affairs under the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan by its head, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin.

      “We traditionally pay special attention to developing multilateral ties with the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. We build interaction with the Islamic world both on a bilateral basis and through multilateral economic and political platforms, including in the format of the Strategic Vision Group ‘Russia – Islamic World,’” he said.

      According to Mukhametshin, the main platform for economic interaction between Russia’s regions and the countries of the Islamic world has become the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum.” By decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin it was granted federal status.

      “This year more than 22,000 people from 96 countries, 82 Russian regions and 43 diplomatic missions took part in the forum’s events,” the speaker of the Tatarstan parliament stressed.

      Mukhametshin noted that large international events held in Kazan help the republic establish contacts, exchange views and strengthen cooperation.

      “The Coordination Council sets tasks aimed at interacting not only with compatriots living abroad, but also with representatives of Tatar communities, national-cultural autonomies and businesses from Russia’s regions,” he observed.

      The Chairman of the State Council added that Tatarstan’s work with compatriots is carried out within the framework of Russia’s foreign policy in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Government Commission for Compatriots’ Affairs.

      “Close cooperation between the republic and the commission and the active participation of the Foreign Ministry’s members in Tatarstan’s events enrich our work with valuable methodological recommendations and generally contribute to achieving the planned results,” he said.

      Mukhametshin recalled that at the plenary session of this year’s St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Putin spoke about the formation of a new world order, one without precedent.

      “He noted that Russia, together with its partners, are its active architects, shaping a new multipolar and fairer world order,” the parliamentary speaker emphasized.

      Tatarstan, he said, in this environment continues to set an example of interethnic peace and harmony, and is actively taking measures to stabilize the economy and counter the sanctions of Western countries. “As before, every possible measure is being taken to support compatriots,” concluded the Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan.
