The Ministry of Education and Science introduces a mandatory Unified State Exam in history for some humanities specialties.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia has approved changes according to which the Unified State Exam (USE) in history will become mandatory for admission to a number of social and humanitarian fields.
The innovations will affect fields of study such as "Sociology", "Jurisprudence", "Conflict Studies", "Public Policy and Social Sciences", "Advertising and Public Relations", "Service" and other related specialties.
From March 1, 2026, universities, during the admissions campaign for the 2026/27 academic year, will be able to independently choose which exam to require from applicants — social studies or history. However, starting with the admissions campaign for the 2027/28 academic year, the USE in history will be established as the mandatory entrance examination for these fields.
In accordance with the law, educational organizations must determine the list of entrance examinations by January 20, 2026.
