Zainsk chess players shine in Almetyevsk: how playing chess develops the mind and the will to win

      Five representatives of the Zainsk Chess Club climbed onto the prize-winning places, winning awards and fame for their hometown.

      An open New Year blitz marathon in chess concluded in Almetyevsk — a tournament where only seconds are given to make decisions. And in this difficult intellectual race our fellow townsmen delivered a brilliant team result. All five representatives of the Zainsk Chess Club rose to prize-winning positions, claiming cash prizes and glory for their hometown. Among women, none equaled Galina Butakova, who confidently took first place. In the girls’ competition Kira Ageeva won. Ivan Churbanov took bronze in the boys’ tournament, and in the men’s division Mikhail Tsaregorodtsev and Alexander Utyaganov were among the strongest, taking the sixth and seventh prize places respectively. This success is a vivid confirmation of the high level of the chess school in Zainsk and the persistence of our athletes.
