- In my consultations, I always repeat a simple truth to my patients: sugar and cholesterol fear walking. If a person regularly engages in aerobic activities—walking, hiking, exercising—then their sugar and cholesterol levels are very likely to be normal. These are not just words; this is proven medical practice. Activity helps our body use energy properly and regulate metabolism.
The flip side is a sedentary lifestyle. Without movement, risks increase exponentially: blood sugar levels begin to rise, "bad" cholesterol increases, along with arterial pressure. This is a direct path to developing diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and cardiovascular disasters.
Therefore, at every appointment, we strive to convey a simple message to people: an active lifestyle is not an option, but a necessity. It should be an obligatory, integral part of every person's life, just like sleep or hygiene.
Not heroism, but habit
Experts agree: for tangible benefits, marathons or hours of training in the gym are not necessary. Just 30 minutes of moderate activity (for example, brisk walking) most days of the week is sufficient. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking during lunch breaks, evening walks before bed, playing with children or grandchildren outdoors—all of this contributes to your health.
Movement strengthens not only the heart and blood vessels but also bones, joints, and muscles, improves mood and sleep, and increases resilience to stress. It is a universal and free means of prevention. Take care of yourself and stay healthy!
