Ilsur Metshin, the mayor of Kazan, has ordered the development of new rules for couriers using electric bicycles or electric scooters for transportation. The city transport committee has already received the corresponding instruction, and the rules are expected to come into effect by spring, reports RBC. "Today, there are about 4,000 of them in Kazan. Couriers actively move around the city, and there have been cases of collisions with pedestrians and other traffic accidents involving them. Given the dynamics of the development of delivery services and the demand for this service among Kazan residents, it is time to regulate the rules for courier movement," said the mayor, emphasizing the importance of increasing traffic safety for all participants without exception. It is worth noting that earlier the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Tatarstan reported that in the first half of February this year, couriers were involved in 110 administrative cases for violations that caused traffic accidents. In the capital of Tatarstan, there are plans to create zones where the speed of electric bicycles and scooters will be automatically reduced. Some areas may become completely inaccessible for passage, requiring couriers to dismount and walk their vehicles beside them. The restrictions will affect places with high pedestrian traffic. The new traffic rules are proposed to be established in parks, squares, along embankments, and on narrow sidewalks, as well as pedestrian streets in the city: Bauman, Kayum Nasyri, and Petersburg. It is expected that this will be implemented with the help of special modules that were previously installed on electric scooters. Earlier in Tatarstan, it was proposed to strengthen control over compliance with traffic rules by couriers.
