       In total, across Russia, about 586,000 applications for personal bankruptcy were considered last year. Residents of Tatarstan accounted for about 12,000 of these applications.

       Over the past year, 12,500 residents of Tatarstan filed applications with the court to declare themselves bankrupt. According to statistics, the republic ranked fourth in the country in this indicator, behind only Moscow, the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, and the Krasnodar Territory. Analysts have calculated that in three-quarters of cases, the initiators of the bankruptcy procedure are the citizens themselves, and only in the remaining quarter are creditors or tax authorities. Men are more likely to file applications: the average age of the debtor is 45 years, and the average amount of debt reaches 2.5 million rubles. The majority of debts are related to consumer loans, mortgages, and credit cards. As stated by the Deputy Minister of Justice of the republic, Maxim Borovkov, the current legislation does not provide a separate norm for recognizing as bankrupt citizens who have been harmed by the actions of fraudsters in one way or another. For those who independently transferred money to scammers or lost their housing, there is a different judicial procedure, Vesti Tatarstan clarifies. It should be noted that it was previously reported that the Republic of Tatarstan entered the top 5 regions of the Russian Federation in terms of the number of self-imposed credit bans. It was also reported that the credit rating of Tatarstan residents has decreased. Statistics showed that in January 2026, the average credit rating of Tatarstan residents was 738 points, which is one point lower than in the same month last year.
