Clicking on a link in the messenger cost a resident of Chistopol almost 70 thousand rubles.
A resident of Chistopol became a victim of scammers due to clicking on a link in a messenger.
A 44-year-old resident of Chistopol reported to the duty unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Chistopol district about fraud. The woman stated that unknown individuals took out three microloans in her name for a total amount of 69,500 rubles. She emphasized that she had not shared her personal data with anyone and had never independently contacted microfinance organizations, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Chistopol district reports.
During the investigation, police officers established that about a month ago, the victim received a message in one of the messengers: "Do you know this person? He died." The woman clicked on the link included in the message, unaware of the consequences.
This action was enough for the scammers to gain unauthorized access to her personal data, hack her account on the "Gosuslugi" portal, and, using the obtained information, took out microloans.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding this fact.
The police remind: how not to become a victim of scammers:
Do not click on suspicious links, even if the message came from an acquaintance. Criminals often hack accounts and send malicious links on behalf of the owner. If you receive a suspicious message, contact the sender by another method — call or write in another messenger to ensure that the message was indeed sent by them. Use complex passwords and enable two-factor authentication for key services: the "Gosuslugi" portal, banking applications, and email. Never share your passport details, bank card numbers, and SMS codes — neither over the phone nor on suspicious websites.
