Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Yuri Shvytkin has passed away unexpectedly. This was reported by the speaker of the lower house of the Federal Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin. "He was respected by his colleagues, trusted by voters - the residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, whose interests Yuri Nikolayevich defended throughout many years of his parliamentary work. <...> He defended the country as a volunteer in the special military operation zone. As Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee, he did everything to address issues and support participants of the special operation and their families," the politician expressed his view on the merits of the deceased colleague. Volodin expressed deep condolences to Shvytkin's relatives and called his passing "an irreplaceable loss." Yuri Nikolayevich Shvytkin was born on May 24, 1965, in Krasnoyarsk. In 1986, he graduated from the Novosibirsk Higher Military-Political Combined Arms School named after the 60th Anniversary of the Great October Revolution, and in 1999 - from the Academy of Management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. From 1986 to 1992, he served in the 76th Guards (Pskov) Airborne Division. He held positions as deputy commander of a company, deputy commander of a separate reconnaissance company, and deputy commander of a parachute battalion. He participated in a number of late Soviet local conflicts. From 1992 to 2001, he served in the internal affairs bodies of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. He held the position of chief of staff of a separate battalion of the departmental security, was the commander of a special rapid response unit of the regional Department for Combating Organized Crime, and commander of the OMON of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. He participated in the first Chechen campaign in 1995-1996. From 2001 to 2016, he was a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Since 2016, he has been a deputy of the State Duma (thus, he was a member of the lower house of parliament of the VII and VIII convocations). He was a holder of three Orders of Courage, the Medal for Combat Merit, and a number of other awards.
