Marat Akhmetov: The agricultural sector of Tatarstan has good development potential.
Today, the agro-industrial complex of Tatarstan is a modern high-tech industry with good development potential. This was stated by the acting Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, Marat Akhmetov, at the plenary session of the All-Russian XXXVII Congress of the Association of Peasant (Farm) Enterprises and Agricultural Cooperatives of Russia. "In Tatarstan, agriculture receives increased, priority attention, and not only for economic reasons. A quarter of the population of the republic, which is almost 1 million people, lives in rural areas with their unique culture, way of life, careful attitude towards folk traditions and customs, and the native language," he said. Akhmetov reminded that last year, the volume of agricultural production for the first time in the republic exceeded 400 billion rubles, which is 107.3% compared to the level of 2024. In this indicator, Tatarstan ranks fourth in Russia and first in the Volga Federal District. "For several years now, we have been leading in milk production, consistently ranking in the top ten for meat, grains, and vegetables. We fully provide the population with basic food products, successfully exporting to other regions and abroad. The republican farmer movement, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary these days, makes a significant contribution to our overall successes," he emphasized. According to the parliament leader, there are currently 2,600 farms operating in the republic, about 400,000 personal subsidiary farms, and 420 agricultural consumer cooperatives. Last year, they produced 40% of the total agricultural production worth 160 billion rubles. Akhmetov noted that in 2025, 1.5 billion rubles will be allocated to support small forms of farming. This year, nearly 2 billion rubles have already been allocated across 17 areas. "In ten of these areas, only republican support is provided. Thanks to this, livestock numbers are maintained in the republic and, importantly, employment and income for rural residents are ensured. Overall, serious work is being done to improve the living conditions of rural residents – infrastructure facilities are being built and repaired, production is being developed, and territories are being improved," he stated. At the same time, the deputy noted that there are many challenges in the agro-industrial sector. The industry is extremely sensitive to the current economic situation, the cost of credit resources, fuel, purchase prices, and government support tools, he added. "A new version of the 'United Russia' party program is currently being developed. Here, we need to unite our efforts. There are enough accumulated problems in the countryside that cannot be solved without government involvement. Firstly, the village is aging. Secondly, the profitability of rural employment is far from being competitive with urban employment," summarized the acting Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan. Akhmetov also read a greeting from the President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. "Today, we have gathered here people of special resilience – those who strengthen the food security of the country, develop rural territories, and preserve the traditions of our multinational people through their daily work. I express my gratitude to all of you for your loyalty to the profession, responsible attitude to your work, and love for your native land," the greeting from the President stated.
Minnikhanov expressed confidence that the ideas and initiatives of the congress participants will be "implemented in practice and will serve the realization of large-scale plans for the development of the agro-industrial complex of Russia."
