      The Committee for External Improvement of the capital of Tatarstan commented on the felling of trees and earthworks on the shore of Lake Nizhny Kaban in their Telegram channel, which has raised concerns among the residents of Kazan. The committee stated that "no filling threatens the lake," and the embankment along the shore is temporary – it is intended "for carrying out work on the installation of supports for future paths." Representatives of the city authorities assured that "after the work is completed, the sand will be removed," and noted that similar methods were used for work on the other shore of the lake. The felling of some trees was described by the committee as "forced," citing the need to ensure the safety of residents and guests of the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. "Safety of residents is paramount. During the preparation for the improvement of the area, the trees were carefully examined. Unfortunately, the results of the examination cannot be ignored – among the identified defects are: critical tilt of the trunks, damaged trunks, rot in the trunk, damage from wood-destroying fungi and bark beetles," the city administration expressed their understanding of the situation. The committee also claims that "signs of emergency" are visible in photographs of the trunks, but they are not always visible on the remaining stumps of the felled trees. "Signs of bark beetles are hidden under the bark, and rot can be present both in the feeding part and higher up the trunk. Trees do not become safe from this; they still pose a threat," the city executive committee stated. "It is important that this felling is selective – only based on signs of emergency. Fortunately, as we see in the photos, most of the trees can be preserved, and in the future, work will proceed around the trunks, with their protection. That is, the paths will bend around the trees or indentations will be made under the trunks, as was done in the second phase of the embankment," concluded the Committee for External Improvement, also expressing hope that "the removal of exclusively emergency trunks will eventually improve the condition of healthy green plantings." Earlier, information about the felling of trees provoked a sharp reaction from the residents of Kazan. In particular, historian and expert on cultural and historical memory Enzhe Dusaeva emphasized: "Such places are not designed. They can only be preserved or irretrievably destroyed, and it is important not to dress them in new 'fashionable' outfits, but to understand how to reveal the treasure that has managed to reach us, survive so many generations, and preserve the flora, fauna, and living contact with nature in the very center of the city."
