The delegation of Zainsk studied the experience of Uzbekistan in the field of culture.
From April 3 to 7, the heads of cultural institutions in the Zainsk district visited Uzbekistan as part of a delegation from Tatarstan. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize themselves with the work of art schools, craft centers in the Fergana region, the "Makhalla" institute, and a new complex in Tashkent, opened in March 2026 at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The delegation included leaders of key cultural institutions in Zainsk: G. M. Gatina, O. P. Vasilyeva, and N. A. Stolbova. Over five days, representatives of Tatarstan visited cultural sites in the Fergana region and the capital, studying the unique approaches of our neighbors to preserving national identity and organizing leisure activities.
Fergana silk and art schools: immersion in traditions
The first day of the delegation's stay was entirely devoted to getting acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of the Fergana region. The visit began in the city of Margilan — an ancient center of silk production. At the famous "Yodgorlik" factory, the guests from Zainsk saw the complete cycle of creating the famous Uzbek fabrics: from processing silkworm cocoons to the final stage of weaving on traditional wooden looms. Special attention was paid to the technologies for producing handmade cotton fabrics, which are the hallmark of the region. A key part of the program was studying the system of artistic education. The delegation visited children's art schools, where specialists from Zainsk thoroughly examined the organization of the educational process and methods of engaging the younger generation in national traditions. The guests also visited an active House of Culture, museum exhibitions, and a craftsman's town in the ethnographic park "Navruz" in the Fergana region. Equally significant was the visit to the crafts center in the Rishtan district — a world-renowned center for ceramics, where masters have carefully preserved the secrets of "ishkor" glaze for several centuries.
The "Makhalla" institute: the social code of Uzbekistan
Particular attention during the trip was paid to getting acquainted with the "Makhalla" institute — a unique territorial-administrative unit of Uzbekistan. Essentially, it is a community of neighbors that unites residents of a small area and performs not only administrative but also powerful socio-cultural functions. For the heads of cultural institutions in Tatarstan, where traditions of territorial community are also strong, this experience proved especially valuable in terms of building grassroots cultural and educational work and preserving folklore "from the ground up."
The Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent: opening in 2026
The highlight of the visit was a trip to Tashkent, where the delegation members toured a large complex — the Center for Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan. The official opening of this grand scientific, educational, and cultural center took place quite recently — on March 17, 2026 — at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The complex impresses with its scale and content. Within its walls, exhibitions covering the pre-Islamic period, the Renaissance era (the golden age of Islamic science and culture), and the modern development of the country are organically combined. The center's fund houses thousands of unique exhibits, including rare manuscripts, historical artifacts, and samples of ancient art. For specialists from Zainsk, this excursion became a true "time capsule," demonstrating how cultural policy can unite history and modernity. The trip confirmed the high mutual interest of the regions of Russia and Uzbekistan in cultural exchange. The studied practices for preserving crafts, working with children in the arts, and utilizing mechanisms of community self-governance ("Makhalla") will be adapted for implementation in cultural institutions in the Zainsk municipal district.
"Uzbekistan sets an example of a respectful attitude towards the national code, integrating ancient traditions into the modern cultural space. The experience of colleagues from Fergana and Tashkent is invaluable to us," noted the delegation at the end of the visit. Photos provided by delegation members.
