More than 270 residents of Tatarstan have been affected by tick bites since the beginning of the season.

      The first bite was registered at the end of March. The tick activity season in the republic is gaining momentum. Since the beginning of the season, 270 people have contacted medical organizations regarding tick bites, including 57 children. For comparison: during the same period in 2025, the number of victims was almost twice as high — 508 people, reports the Rospotrebnadzor of Tatarstan. The first bite of this season was registered on March 25 — a day earlier than last year. The highest number of victims is noted in Kazan (66 cases), Naberezhnye Chelny (32), Almetyevsk district (27), Nizhnekamsk (23), Yelabuga (17), and Bugulma (13). No cases of tick-borne infections have been recorded so far. In the republic, processing of parks, squares, mass recreation areas, and children's camp territories for ticks is planned. The total area is 2500 hectares. Currently, 105.4 hectares have been processed, and effectiveness control has been conducted on 23 hectares. A tick-borne encephalitis vaccination has been administered to 5514 people — this is 43 percent of the plan. Specialists remind that Ixodes tick-borne borreliosis is a natural focal infection transmitted through an insect bite. The incubation period lasts from 3 to 40 days, on average — one and a half to two weeks. The first symptoms can easily be confused with the flu: high temperature, muscle and joint pain, weakness, nausea, cough, and photophobia. A red spot of round shape usually appears at the bite site. Over time, it can grow and turn into a ring-shaped erythema — sometimes up to 60 centimeters in diameter. If you see a doctor in time, the disease can be treated in a few days to a month and ends with a full recovery. However, with a late visit, the infection affects internal organs and tissues. This can lead to meningitis, myocarditis, chronic arthritis, and other severe consequences.

      Doctors advise not to delay a visit to the doctor if you notice a tick on your body or discover redness. The season has just begun, and it is better to take care of protection in advance.
