In Russia, the import of signal reception and transmission devices from foreign communication satellites, including dual-use ones, has been banned. The corresponding decree of the country's government was signed by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, and the document was published on the official legal information publication portal. "<...> the import into the Russian Federation of radio-electronic means intended for the transmission and/or reception of radio waves from foreign communication space objects (communication satellites, including dual-use) of foreign states is prohibited, according to the list in the appendix, which do not have a decision from the state commission on radio frequencies regarding the allocation of frequency bands," the text of the decree states. The ban will take effect the day after the publication of the signed document from April 29, meaning tomorrow, May 1, and will remain in force for six months. The Federal Customs Service and the FSB of Russia are responsible for monitoring the implementation of the ban. Earlier, against the backdrop of mass protests occurring in Iran at the end of last year and the beginning of this year, and the subsequent internet shutdown by the authorities of the Islamic Republic, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump secretly sent about 6,000 Starlink satellite communication terminals to that country, as reported later by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
