Deputy Stenyakina reminded about salary compensations for the May holidays.
Employees with piece-rate or hourly wages may receive lower salaries than usual in May due to the large number of public holidays. At the same time, employers are required to pay them additional compensation for non-working holidays if employees were not called to work on those days. This was reported to "RIA Novosti" by member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, Ekaterina Stenyakina. According to the deputy, current labor legislation guarantees the preservation of salaries for employees with fixed monthly wages in months that have non-working public holidays and additional days off established by the Russian government. She clarified that for employees receiving bonuses, the amount of payments depends on the bonus conditions in a specific organization. Meanwhile, for hourly wage rates or piece-rate payment systems, salaries directly depend on the number of hours actually worked or the volume of produced goods. Stenyakina noted that May traditionally has fewer working days and hours, so the income of such employees may decrease. However, according to her, labor legislation provides mechanisms that partially compensate for this difference compared to employees on a fixed salary. The deputy explained that employers are obliged to pay employees without a fixed salary additional compensation for non-working public holidays if they did not work on those dates. The amount of such payment is determined by the employer independently in accordance with Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. Stenyakina also added that employees with hourly wages, working a standard five-day week and not working on May 1 and 9, should receive additional compensation for these public holidays. If, however, an employee was called to work on holidays, payment should be made at double the rate.
