The construction of the long-awaited second line of the Kazan metro, aimed at relieving the central transport hub and connecting residential areas with the business center of the capital of Tatarstan, is progressing at an accelerated pace, and its first section will be put into operation significantly earlier than originally scheduled.
As reported by the first deputy head of the State Construction Supervision Inspection of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ilfart Safiullin, the launch of the first launch complex of the second line of the Kazan subway is now scheduled for August 2027, which is exactly one year ahead of the dates that were previously mentioned in the project documentation and assumed the opening of traffic no earlier than 2028. According to the BIZNES Online portal, Safiullin noted that this facility, considering its technical complexity and uniqueness, is under the supervision of the federal service Rostekhnadzor, not the regional inspection, but they also confirm the reality of the new deadline. The fact that work on this strategically important facility has reached the final straight is also evidenced by the dynamics of financing. It was previously reported that the government allocated an additional almost one and a half billion rubles for the continuation of construction of the section between the future stations "Fuchika" and "Sakharova," which allowed contractors to accelerate the pace of tunneling and finishing work. In December 2025, the construction readiness of the first section of the second line was estimated at forty-six percent, and now, judging by the shift in deadlines to the left by a whole year, the builders have managed to make a real leap, concentrating the necessary material and human resources on the site. To date, the Kazan metro has 11 stations, the first phase of which from "Kremlevskaya" to "Gorok" was ceremoniously opened for the millennium of the city in 2005. The station "Dubravnaya," put into operation in 2018, remains the endpoint of the network.
