This day also marks the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture and the name day of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. His Holiness was assisted by a council of hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church. Among the archpastors was Metropolitan Kirill of Kazan and Tatarstan. The liturgical hymns were performed by the Patriarchal Choir of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior (conductor — I.B. Metropolitan Grigory of Voskresensky announced a congratulatory address from the members of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill on the occasion of his name day and presented His Holiness with an icon of the Mother of God "The Sign." On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill was congratulated by the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District I.O. Shchegolev, and on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation — Deputy Prime Minister D.N. Chernyshenko, who read a congratulatory message from the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation M.V. Mishustin.
