A fake investigator from the investigative committee deceived an elderly woman from Nizhnekamsk out of 500,000 rubles.
In Nizhnekamsk, a 77-year-old woman gave 500,000 rubles to scammers. The fraudster who called her posed as an employee of the Investigative Committee, reports the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstan. Law enforcement officials established that the pensioner received a call on her mobile phone from a stranger. The man introduced himself as an employee of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and informed her that her granddaughter had allegedly caused a traffic accident in which people were injured. To free her relative from criminal liability, the fake investigator demanded money. The pensioner was scared for her granddaughter and followed the fraudster's instructions: she packed one hundred 5,000-ruble bills into a bag, also placing in it essential items meant for her granddaughter, who was supposedly in the hospital. A few hours later, a courier came to the pensioner, and she handed the assembled bag to the stranger. After some time, the woman contacted her relatives and learned that her granddaughter was fine. A criminal case has been initiated for large-scale fraud. The police are searching for the criminals.
