As of today, following the first four months of 2026, specialists have registered over 4,500 crimes related to fraudulent activities against residents of Tatarstan. At the same time, the damage indicator for the year has decreased by 13%, while the number of crimes has decreased by more than 18%.

In the Republic of Tatarstan, from January to April 2026, despite a slight decrease in the overall number of registered crimes, there remains a consistently tense situation with remote fraud, and the damage inflicted on trusting citizens amounts to an astronomical sum. As reported at a press conference at the news agency "Tatar-inform" by Radis Yusupov, the operational officer for particularly important cases in the department for combating property crimes using information and communication technologies of the Cybercrime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, scammers have deceived residents of the republic out of more than 1.5 billion rubles in the first four months of this year. This is 30% or 227 million rubles less than in the same period last year, and the number of crimes has decreased by 18.6% to 4,500 episodes. Yusupov characterized the current situation as "consistently tense" and emphasized that the excuses used by fraudsters remain the same. Most often, they deceive citizens under the pretext of the need to protect funds from allegedly unauthorized transfers to Ukraine to finance the armed forces of hostile countries. Residents of the republic also continue to lose savings under the pretext of high-yield investments, the need to prove the legality of the origin of funds, and transferring money to a mythical "safe account." For prevention, citizens are strongly advised to impose self-restrictions on issuing loans and registering new SIM cards so that scammers cannot use them for criminal purposes, and, as reported by the deputy head of the Ministry of Digital Development of the republic, Albert Yakovlev, such a restriction on lending has already been established for over 700,000 residents of Tatarstan. The head of the economic department of the National Bank for the Republic of Tatarstan, Elena Kirsanova, provided nationwide statistics, according to which, in 2025, the protective systems of the country's banks repelled 134 million attempts to steal money from clients' accounts, which is twice as many as in the year before last, and allowed for the preservation of about 14 trillion rubles. It was previously reported that scammers in Tatarstan have begun to actively use a new scheme, and cases have already been recorded where residents of the republic are deceived using fake hot water shutdown schedules.
