      In the Vysokogorsky District of Tatarstan, the major renovation of the riverbank dam in the village of Shuman on the Shumanka River has been completed. The updated hydraulic structure has provided flood protection for more than 200 residents of 96 houses and improved the condition of the water body—swans and ducks have returned here, representatives of the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan reported during a press tour.

      "The issues of environmental well-being in Tatarstan are always a priority. The head of the republic pays the closest attention to them. This is a direct concern for people, their safety, and the preservation of their homes and lives. Over five years, from 2020 to 2025, with federal support, Tatarstan has carried out major renovations of 35 hydraulic structures. Importantly, the republic always co-finances these projects because the safety of people is an unconditional priority for us," noted the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ilnur Nasretdinov.

      The work was carried out as part of the state program "Reproduction and Use of Natural Resources." Specialists reinforced the dam, repaired the slopes, updated the drainage system, spillway structure, and water discharge. The cost of the work exceeded 54 million rubles, of which more than 31 million were allocated by Rosvodresursy.

      After the reconstruction, the area has become not only safer but also more convenient for holding mass events. Over the past five years, Tatarstan has renovated 35 hydraulic structures, providing flood protection for more than 14,000 people.

      "Despite the relatively small scale of the facility—it ensures the safety of about 200 people—its significance in the overall flood protection system is hard to overestimate. The consistent reinforcement of each element of the system allows for an increase in the level of protection for the territories. Over the past five years, thanks to this strategy, it has been possible to ensure the safety of more than 8,400 residents of the republic from the negative impacts of water," noted the head of the water resources department for the Republic of Tatarstan at Rosvodresursy, Ayrat Fatrakhmanov.

      Let us remind you that 10 million rubles will be spent on the second phase of flood protection work on the Yakty-Kon dam near the village of Almetyevsk. In the first phase, the slope reinforcements on the upper reach were restored, and the pond bed was cleared of silt deposits.
