The process of merging SIBUR and the TAIF group enterprises in Tatarstan, which began five years ago, represented a bilateral integration during which best practices were transferred from the republic to other company assets across Russia. This was stated by SIBUR's chairman Mikhail Karisalov in an interview with the publication "Tatar-inform" and TNV. In response to the question of whether the integration with Tatarstan enterprises is complete, Karisalov noted that he would not limit the effect solely to what SIBUR received. According to him, the key result was access to technologies, engineering expertise, and, importantly, the bilateral integration of people.
"I am not ashamed to say: thank God, my colleagues and I had the strength and common sense to recognize back in 2022 — not in the first months, but definitely in the first six months — that integration should not only involve Nizhnekamsk and Kazan into SIBUR. If something has been developed here, and peaks have been reached in the technological development and functionalization of a number of rubber formulations, for example, then it is urgent to bring this to Tomsk, Tobolsk, Voronezh, and start applying it. And that is what was done," emphasized the head of SIBUR.
Karisalov also acknowledged that the merger brought not always pleasant practices, such as increased intensity and productivity of labor. He urged employees of Tatarstan enterprises to compare themselves with the largest global manufacturers — BASF, LyondellBasell, SABIC, and Saudi Aramco.
He emphasized that despite some difficulties and occasional jokes about "federalists," the main winner from this deal was the economy of Russia.
Recall that the merger of SIBUR's and TAIF's petrochemical assets was completed in October 2021. "SIBUR" included "Nizhnekamskneftekhim" and "Kazanorgsintez," while TAIF shareholders received 15% in the merged company. The integration allowed for the creation of a unified production chain from raw materials to processing, ensured synergy in investment and technological programs, and launched large-scale development projects, such as the new ethylene complex EP-600 in Nizhnekamsk.
