In Leninogorsk, a 31-year-old man was sentenced for running over the deputy head of the local police department. The driver was found guilty of using life-threatening violence against a representative of the authorities, the city court's press service reported. The incident occurred on April 17 of this year near house No. 98a on Oktyabrskaya Street. Police attempted to stop a BMW driven by a drunken man. In an attempt to escape, the driver continued driving and dragged one of the police officers on the hood. He sustained minor bodily injuries. After the incident, the perpetrator hid the car and got off to avoid attracting attention. He was eventually apprehended. The defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. The court took into account mitigating circumstances: the presence of a minor child, charitable activities, public apologies, and voluntary compensation for moral damage. The Leninogorsk city court sentenced him to four years probation. The sentence may be appealed.
