According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detainees—a resident of Almetyevsk and two young men from Korolev and Syzran aged 18 and 20—became victims of phone scammers who acted under the guise of government officials. The criminals convinced them to install video communication applications and follow instructions. As a result, the fraudsters gained access to the victims' home, where valuables worth over 70 million rubles were stored.
