A new GOST for cleaning premises has been approved in Russia: what will change from July 1.
The new national standard regulates all stages of cleaning—from the preparation of cleaning solutions to the speed of surface treatment—and comes into effect in just two weeks. Rosstandart has officially approved GOST R ISO 14644-5-2026, which establishes uniform requirements for the operation of clean rooms and cleaning operations in buildings of various purposes. The document will replace the previously effective standard from 2005 and will start to be applied from July 1, 2026. According to the new rules, cleaning of premises must be divided into several sequential stages. First, surfaces inside the building are cleaned, followed by the treatment of critically important areas and equipment. Before starting work, specialists are required to check the compatibility of cleaning agents with the materials being treated, as well as to consider the concentration of solutions and their shelf life. Special attention in the document is given to wet cleaning techniques. In the presence of contamination, it is recommended to use two to three buckets of water, and the mop should be pre-treated with chemical agents. For hard-to-reach places, dry vacuum cleaning is allowed, and small working areas can be wiped with wet or alcohol wipes. The new standard also regulates work with personnel, the procedure for entering and exiting premises, requirements for employee training, and monitoring cleanliness levels. Organizations will need to assess factors affecting contamination, including the movement of people and materials.
