Veterans of student brigades from all over the country will gather in Naberezhnye Chelny.

      From July 2 to July 4, a nationwide gathering of veterans of student brigades will take place in Naberezhnye Chelny, dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the city and the 50th anniversary of the release of the first KAMAZ truck. The participants will include 420 people from 33 regions of Russia.

      In Naberezhnye Chelny, from July 2 to July 4, a large-scale event will gather veterans of student brigades from across the country — a nationwide gathering dedicated to two significant dates: the 400th anniversary of the city and the 50th anniversary of the release of the first KAMAZ truck. It is expected that 420 people from 33 regions of Russia will participate in the event. Among them will be veterans of student brigades from the Soviet period, including those who were at the origins of the construction of the automotive giant and the city itself, representatives of regional branches of Russian student brigades, curators, students, and schoolchildren. For many of them, this meeting will be an opportunity to once again immerse themselves in the atmosphere of youth, recalling the years when they themselves were part of a great construction project. The director of the Republican Center for Student Labor Brigades, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Russian Student Brigades Vasily Islaev emphasized that the continuity of generations is the foundation on which the entire movement stands. Without the veterans who laid the foundation of the student brigade movement, there would be none of the projects that today’s youth are implementing. The task of the current generation is to preserve this invaluable experience and pass it on. The gathering in Naberezhnye Chelny is an opportunity not only to remember the glorious history but also to visually demonstrate how the ideas of the past continue to work in modern productions, what projects are born based on the labor traditions that were laid decades ago.

      The main task of the gathering is to pass on experience and maintain the connection between generations, showing how the labor traditions of the 1970s and 1980s continue to live on today. A rich program has been prepared for the participants, allowing them to dive into history and feel the spirit of that time. It will include theatrical performances about the construction of the factory and the city, tours of KAMAZ workshops, familiarization with the infrastructure of the Regional Headquarters, as well as visits to memorial sites: the stela of the shock construction, the monument to the builders of KAMAZ, and the debarkader where Komsomol members from all over the Soviet Union once arrived. For the younger generation, the organizers have prepared a quest "Work for the Youth," workshops, and open dialogues with veterans, where everyone can ask questions and hear live stories firsthand.

      Naberezhnye Chelny rightfully bears the title of a city born from a Komsomol construction project. It was here in January 1970 that the All-Union shock Komsomol construction project "KAMAZ" began. Over ten years, more than twenty-five thousand students from all over the Soviet Union passed through this construction project. And today, the tradition of student brigades continues in Tatarstan. From 2024 to 2026, KAMAZ has already hosted four stages of the All-Russian student project, and this summer the fifth, anniversary stage will take place. During the three stages of the 2000s, students assembled more than seventeen thousand six hundred trucks, fifteen thousand four hundred cabins, and nearly nine thousand engines. Only in the winter stage of 2026, two hundred twenty-five young people from fifteen regions participated. In total, over three years, six thousand three hundred thirty-five people have been employed through the regional headquarters at KAMAZ.

      The activities of student brigades in Tatarstan are coordinated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs as part of the national project "Youth and Children." Since 1959, more than twenty million people have gone through the school of student brigades, and since 2021, more than one hundred seventy thousand participants in the movement have received free training in additional working professions. The gathering of veterans in Naberezhnye Chelny will be yet another vivid confirmation that the traditions of student brigades are alive, and their spirit and energy continue to inspire new generations for labor feats.
