This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Road Economy of Tatarstan. Participants discussed the development of river passenger transport and its prospects. Special attention was given to the "River Highways" project, which aims to unlock the potential of rivers as transport arteries. Issues of fleet renewal and the construction of modern passenger vessels with enhanced comfort and environmental standards were also considered. Farit Khamifov spoke about the development of river transportation in Tatarstan. The length of the republic's internal waterways is 1,057 km: 788 km in the Volga basin and 269 km in the Kama basin. Since the beginning of 2026, more than 113,000 passengers have been transported along river routes, which is 5.4% more than in the same period of 2025. The most popular routes are to Bolgar, Sviyazhsk, Kama Mouth, and Naberezhnye Chelny. In the future, there are plans to expand the route network. It will include stops in Zelenodolsk, Rybnaya Sloboda, Sukhoi Bersu, Krasny Yar, Mamadysh, and Mendeleevsk. Currently, JSC "Flot RT" operates 22 passenger vessels, including 4 "Meteor" of project 2020, 3 restored "Meteor" of project 342E, and 1 "Voskhoд-51" of project 352. Farit Khamifov noted that for the balanced development of high-speed interregional communication, the regions of the Volga Federal District need to participate more actively in the renewal of the river fleet and the restoration of existing vessels. Separately, in 2024-2025, the reconstruction of the floating dock facilities will be carried out in Tatarstan. Defect inspections of reinforced concrete foundations have been completed on 14 floating docks, and electrical equipment checks and construction and technical expertise have been conducted on 15. Current repairs have been carried out on 11 facilities: wooden superstructures have been updated, fender frames, railing fences, and pontoon transition bridges have been restored.

      It is noted that the transport infrastructure of Tatarstan — river, railway, and road — provides comfortable conditions for passenger and cargo transportation, including within the regions of the Volga Federal District. It has also been proposed to create a unified dispatch service for organizing interregional routes and a mechanism for subsidizing lost revenues for carriers.
