      Kazan is preparing to celebrate the 447th anniversary of the revelation of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. From July 20 to 21, solemn services, a procession, the consecration of the restored church, and a festive concert will take place in the capital of Tatarstan.

      On July 20 at 17:00, an all-night vigil with the singing of the Akathist to the Mother of God will be held at the Kazan Cathedral. On July 21 at 7:30, a traditional city-wide procession will begin at the Annunciation Cathedral of the Kazan Kremlin. The faithful will walk with the revered icon to the Kazan Mother of God Monastery.

      Then, the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God will be brought into the restored Nicholas of Tulsky Church, where at 10:00 the Great Rite of Consecration will take place. A multitude of archpastors of the Russian Church will participate in the celebrations. The holiday will conclude with a concert in the "Yelmai" park at 18:00. The headliner will be singer Vika Tsyganova. The Moscow group "Pokrov" and a Russian song ensemble led by Eleonora Kalashnikova will also perform. Admission is free.

      It is expected that on July 21, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will visit Kazan. If this happens, it will be his fifth visit to the capital of Tatarstan — the patriarch visited in 2016, 2021, 2023, and 2025.

      The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was revealed in Kazan in 1579. It is considered one of the most revered icons of the Russian Orthodox Church and the patroness of the family.

      The Kazan Mother of God Monastery was closed in the 1930s. The Nicholas Church was converted into a tobacco factory, the cells became dormitories, and the Kazan Cathedral was blown up. By the early 2000s, the buildings were returned to the Church. The Cross Exaltation Church was restored first, and in 2021, Patriarch Kirill consecrated the recreated Kazan Cathedral. Two years ago, work began on the restoration of the Nicholas Church, which will also be consecrated now.
