Doctors from the Republican Clinical Hospital of Tatarstan removed a complex tumor from a patient's face without damaging the nerve.

      Surgeons at the Republican Clinical Hospital of Tatarstan successfully removed a complex tumor from a patient located near the facial nerve. This was reported by the press service of the medical institution. A 47-year-old man sought help from doctors, complaining of a large growth on his cheek. Examination revealed that he had a recurrent adenoma of the parotid salivary gland. A similar tumor had been removed from him in Chelyabinsk in 2010, but at that time it was significantly smaller. The operation was performed by maxillofacial surgeon Andrey Rudyak and his assistant Anastasia Tsarevina. The specialists carefully separated the soft tissues and then, using optical equipment and microsurgical instruments, removed the multinodular tumor while preserving all branches of the facial nerve. According to the doctors, the main difficulty was that the neoplasm was located directly next to the facial nerve. Any careless movement could have led to its damage and, consequently, to paralysis of half the face. Thanks to the meticulous work of the surgeons, this was avoided. Photo: minzdrav.tatarstan.ru
