The oldest wooden mosque in Kazan will receive architectural lighting.
In Kazan, changes to the restoration and adaptation project for the cultural heritage site of regional significance — the Rajab Mosque (formerly the Factory Mosque) — have been approved. According to the conclusion of the state historical and cultural expertise, the document has been supplemented with new architectural and structural solutions, as well as a project for the architectural lighting of the building. One of the notable changes will be the new color scheme for the facades. The main color of the mosque is proposed to be a traditional grassy green shade, while decorative elements — window frames, pilasters, and cornices — will be painted in ivory color. The top of the minaret is planned to be covered with gold leaf. Additionally, a special railing will be installed on the roof, necessary for the safe maintenance of the building. The project also includes architectural lighting, which will highlight the historical and artistic features of the monument in the evening and at night. Cable lines are planned to be laid in the attic space, and lighting fixtures will be selected taking into account the characteristics of the historical building. The Factory Mosque is a unique monument for Kazan. It is the only surviving wooden historical mosque in the city and the only surviving historical mosque in the Zakamye region. The building was constructed in 1897 as one of the structures of the Alafuzov flax spinning factory and was used as a prayer house for workers. In 1910, the Muslim parish of the Yagodnaya Sloboda was officially registered here. After its closure in 1930, the building housed a kindergarten, a military hospital, and a dormitory. In the mid-20th century, the building survived a fire and several reconstructions. The mosque was returned to the believers in 1993, after which its gradual restoration began. In recent years, repair and restoration work has already been underway at the site thanks to benefactors. Experts concluded that the proposed solutions do not affect the subject of the monument's protection and comply with the requirements of legislation in the field of cultural heritage preservation. After the project is approved by the authorized body, work can continue in accordance with the updated documentation.
