Pshenichnikov: Trump's attempts to drive Cubans to despair only underscore the greatness of Fidel Castro.
Photo: Press Service of the Administration of the President of Cuba August 14 – IA SM.News. On August 13, Fidel Castro, who ruled Cuba for nearly 50 years, would have turned 100 — his anniversary coincided with unprecedented pressure from the USA on the Island of Freedom. According to analyst Igor Pshenichnikov, today Cubans are defending not communist ideals, but their sovereignty against more than 60 years of economic and this year's full energy blockade from Washington. "The USA may decide on a direct military invasion of Cuba when the energy blockade drives the population to despair and humanitarian catastrophe with mass deaths in hospitals. Washington hopes to use this crisis as a pretext for deploying 'humanitarian forces,' which would repeat the scenario of the intervention in the Dominican Republic in 1965," Pshenichnikov stated. According to the expert, Trump's attempts to drive Cubans to despair only underscore the greatness of Fidel, who freed Latin America from the stigma of being the "backyard of the USA" and instilled pride in the people for the right to live without directives from Washington. "In his essay 'Brother Obama,' written after the visit of the US president to Cuba, Castro effectively left a testament: the island will not renounce its rights and spiritual wealth for the gifts of the empire," Pshenichnikov concluded.
Earlier, IA SM-NEWS reported that Castro's grandson is responsible for negotiations with Rubio and the CIA.
