"Very satisfied": head of the Finnish federation - on the fact that FIS did not allow Russians
The Chairwoman of the Finnish Ski Federation, Sirpa Korkatti, commented on the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to allow Russian and Belarusian skiers to compete in a neutral status. According to her, this concerns only a few individual athletes, which essentially repeats the situation from the end of last season at the World Cup in Salpausselkä. Korkatti emphasized that FIS will carefully check each candidate for compliance with the conditions of neutrality. "I understand it this way, that it is not just a signature on paper. FIS will check the circumstances and ensure that the athlete does not participate in political activities and does not support the current government. According to the IOC's decision, Russian and Belarusian athletes would have the opportunity to participate in international competitions in full. I am very pleased that FIS did not go down this path that some international sports federations have already taken," Korkatti's words are quoted by Yle.fi. It should be noted that FIS allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in tournaments under its auspices on the condition of signing a declaration of neutrality based on a number of principles established by the organization.
