      Exceedances of the maximum permissible pesticide levels in batches of wheat and barley were recorded in consignments received from the Alekseevsky District.

      In Tatarstan a violation was found in a batch of new-crop grain totaling 5,000 tons. Specialists from the Federal Center for Assessment of Safety and Quality of Agro-Industrial Complex Products found multiple exceedances of the permissible level of a hazardous pesticide in feed wheat and barley from the Alekseevsky District, writes "Tatar-Inform." Laboratory analyses showed that in the wheat sample the content of the insecticide "lambda-cyhalothrin" exceeded the maximum permissible level by 6.4 times. In the feed barley sample this indicator was above the norm by 3.8 times. The permissible limit for this substance is no more than 0.01 mg/kg.

      "The use of pesticides included in the State Catalogue of Pesticides and Agrochemicals of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia is the key to successful farming, but one must not forget the importance of strict control over their application," said Guzel Sagdeeva, head of the testing laboratory of the branch of the FSBI "Center for Assessment of Safety and Quality of Agro-Industrial Complex Products" in Tatarstan.

      As clarified by the laboratory, "lambda-cyhalothrin," effective against pests, when application regulations are violated poses a threat to the ecosystem: it harms water resources and catastrophically reduces the numbers of bees and wild insect pollinators. Information about the violation has been sent to Rosselkhoznadzor for action, and the producer has been advised to urgently reduce pesticide levels in the grain.

      According to laboratory representatives, of 8,800 samples tested, non-compliance with requirements was found in only 80 (0.9%).
