      In Naberezhnye Chelny two local residents were detained on suspicion of aiding telephone scammers. The two 31-year-old men maintained SIM boxes that allowed criminals to make anonymous calls and defraud citizens, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Tatarstan reported.

      It was established that the detainees found part-time work through a messaging app related to the acceptance, installation and maintenance of SIM boxes, as well as obtaining SIM cards. One of the perpetrators rented an apartment specifically for these purposes, and the second set up a "workplace" in his home.

      During searches of the suspects' residences the following were found and seized:

      8 SIM boxes

      7 mobile phones

      more than 1,400 SIM cards from various operators

      4 bank cards

      3 Wi‑Fi routers

      a laptop

      Criminal cases have been opened against the detainees under part 2 of Article 274.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (unauthorized impact on the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation).

      Over the past three months in Tatarstan there has been a significant decrease in financial damage caused by telephone scammers. If losses amounted to 953 million rubles in June, by July they had fallen to 575 million rubles.
