Milk production in Tatarstan increased by 6%.

Milk production in Tatarstan increased by 6%.

In Tatarstan, 1.405 million tonnes of milk were milked in the first nine months of the current year, 2025, which is 106% of the 2024 level (or plus 74 thousand tonnes). This was reported by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, Marat Zyabbarov, at the traditional meeting in the House of Government of the region. The meeting was chaired with videoconference connections to all municipalities by the Prime Minister of Tatarstan, Alexey Pesoshin. The Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, Farid Mukhametshin, also took part, the republic’s press service reports.

According to the speaker, the leaders in milk production are the Atninsky, Mamadyshsky, Menzelinsky and Kukmorsky districts, which account for 78% of the increase. These are municipalities with a high level of adoption of advanced technologies in modern dairy complexes.

At the same time, 15 districts showed negative milk-yield figures. There, with a reduction in the milking herd, cow productivity remains below the regional averages, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan noted.

One way to increase milk production, he said, is to create feed centers. Currently there are 56 feed centers in 24 districts of the republic serving more than 210 thousand head of cattle.

This year three feed centers were launched — in the Zelenodolsk, Sabinsky and Tetyushsky districts. Another five centers are under construction — in the Tetyushsky, Atninsky, Alekseevsky, Arsky and Sabinsky districts.

The minister emphasized that good results are achieved by those agricultural enterprises that build modern dairy complexes and purchase pedigree heifers with good genetics. This year seven dairy complexes for 2,576 head were commissioned in the region.

Twenty-three investment projects for 22 thousand cows are at various stages of implementation. Their commissioning is expected to yield an additional 80 thousand tonnes of milk.

According to the National Union of Milk Producers, the number of newly created and modernized livestock places in Russia in 2024 was the lowest since 2017. This indicator fell from 115 thousand livestock places to 71 thousand. The organization noted that the country’s milk self-sufficiency is 85% instead of the 90% planned in the Food Security Doctrine.

In the current circumstances Zyabbarov called on district heads, leaders of agroholdings and other agricultural enterprises to step up investment activity in dairy farming to ensure the sustainable development of the industry.

Agricultural formations of all ownership types, including peasant farms and household plots, produced 314 thousand tonnes of meat of livestock and poultry in the first nine months of the current year, which is 102% of the 2024 level.

Pork production increased by 5%, poultry meat by 1%, and beef production remained unchanged compared to last year. The largest increases in cattle meat production were shown by the Atninsky, Menzelinsky and Baltasinsky districts, while 24 municipalities demonstrated negative dynamics.

The Deputy Prime Minister named low average daily weight gain as the reason for this. The absence of modern feeding and livestock housing technologies does not allow achieving high gains in the Apastovsky, Leninogorsky, Laishevsky and Bavlinsky districts (unlike in Kukmorsky, where such technologies exist).

Speaking about livestock numbers, Zyabbarov noted that the number of livestock and cattle in Tatarstan decreased by 1%, while the number of pigs increased by 5%.

A reduction in the number of cattle was recorded in 26 districts. “The largest decrease” was in Buinsky, Apastovsky, Mamadyshsky and Zainsky districts, where two large agroholdings operate, the agricultural holding companies Ak Bars and Agrosila.

The speaker demanded that the management of both agroholdings adhere to the approved roadmaps and take measures to restore the herd.

Overall, since the beginning of the year, sales of agricultural products by Tatarstan entrepreneurs brought in 151.0 billion rubles. Of these, 71%, or 107.8 billion rubles, came from livestock farming (an increase of 20% over the previous year). In particular, milk sales brought in 57 billion rubles (an increase of 134% compared to 2024), and sales of livestock and poultry brought in 43.4 billion rubles (an increase of 114% compared to 2024).

Marat Zyabbarov also announced that on October 28 a meeting is planned at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan with the participation of heads of municipal districts, leaders of agroholdings and agricultural formations. During the event, the results of the development of the livestock sector for the nine months will be summed up and a detailed analysis will be conducted, identifying growth points for production indicators, he said.
