      A report of fraud was received by the duty unit of the OMVD of Russia for the Chistopolsky District from a 44-year-old local resident who works at a preschool educational institution.

      According to the complainant’s testimony, an unknown person called her and offered a way to make money through investments. The caller claimed that he himself earned income this way and sincerely wanted to help. The woman agreed to the offer.

      Initially she deposited 8,900 rubles, then, after being persuaded of the need to top up the account, transferred 182,000 rubles, 99,000 rubles and 83,000 rubles. When she attempted to withdraw the funds she was told that the confirmation code had been entered incorrectly, which made withdrawal impossible. The fraudsters suggested finding someone willing to act as a guarantor and also invest funds in the company.

      The woman convinced her friend, who deposited 538,000 rubles. However, withdrawing the funds again proved impossible, this time due to an allegedly incorrectly entered bank card number. The complainant’s son was then brought in as the next guarantor; he deposited 195,000 rubles.

      In total the woman “invested” more than 1,000,000 rubles but was unable to withdraw the money.

      A criminal case has been opened in connection with this incident under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — Fraud committed on a particularly large scale.

      Police officers strongly advise citizens to refrain from investing if they do not have sufficient knowledge and experience in this area. Before investing money, it is necessary to thoroughly study information about the company and the investment products being offered, and to consult independent financial experts.
