According to the FSB of Russia in Tatarstan, the suspects were supposed to extract explosives and components for an improvised explosive device from a stash to carry out a terrorist act in Russia.
FSB officers for the Republic of Tatarstan thwarted the dangerous activities of a group of residents from the Khabarovsk region who were collaborating with Ukrainian special services. As established by counterintelligence, the individuals planned to carry out diversions on the territory of Russia in exchange for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. "The defendants in the case established contact with employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for the purpose of obtaining Ukrainian citizenship and subsequent relocation to its territory," TASS quotes the statement from the special service. According to the agency's press service, the criminals contacted employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR) and began confidential cooperation. Ukrainian curators provided their Russian accomplices with the coordinates of a stash containing explosives and components for making an improvised explosive device. "Explosives and components for an improvised explosive device intended for carrying out a terrorist act on the territory of the Russian Federation were found in the stash," the FSB reported. The investigative department of the FSB of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan has initiated a criminal case under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for treason in the form of providing other assistance directed against the security of the country. It is noted that a case had previously been initiated against these individuals for terrorism (part 1 of Article 30, part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and part 3 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, mailing, or carrying of explosives or explosive devices."
