As stated by the government of the republic, if funding volumes increase, it can be expected that the metro stations will open earlier than the specified date. The first section of the second line of the Kazan metro may not be launched before 2028. This forecast was voiced by the Deputy Minister of Construction of Tatarstan, Ilshat Gimaev. "With the current levels of funding, the most preferable years are 2027-2028. The most optimistic option for a full-scale opening, it seems to me, is 2028. If the money appears, then maybe it will be faster," the minister said at a press conference at "Tatar-inform." Currently, the construction of four new stations – "Tulpar" near the "Mega" shopping mall, "Zilant" at the intersection of Fuchik and Lomonzhinskaya streets, "Academic" near Zavoysky street, and "100th Anniversary of Tatarstan" on Fuchik – is proceeding strictly according to schedule, but under the conditions of adhering to the budget limit. Annually, only 1 billion rubles are allocated for the project – this amount is only enough for the planned pace of work without the possibility of acceleration. According to "RBC Tatarstan," Gimaev stated back in 2022 that the first section of the second line of the Kazan metro with two stations, at that level of funding, is planned to be completed in 2027. At that time, the minister said that the first line had demonstrated its viability, but had not yet paid off. According to the builders' plan, the second line of the metro should connect the rapidly growing areas of the city, including the Universiade Village and the Republican Clinical Hospital, with the center of Kazan, relieving congested highways. To date, residents actively use 11 stations on the only line, the last of which – "Dubravnaya" – opened six years ago.
